oem grille or aftermarket

Just opened what I thought was an oem chrome grille (purchased off of ebay, didn't pay much). Looks great, but it's plastic, not metal. Are oem chrome grille's plastic or metal? TIA Michael

The only metal you can get is aftermarket, ie M7. Here is a pic of my M7 grilles:

True "chrome" has pretty much been done away with years ago because of cost, environment issues, and potential corrosion, etc....although you may still see some on truck bumpers and stuff....Most chrome parts for both interior and exterior these days are injection molded ABS plastic that is then vacuum metalized to get the chrome finish...even most faucets handles and other bath accessories these days are done the same way....

It sounds cheap, but it weighs less, and costs considerably less than real metal....
