16x6.5 or 16x7.5

I'm interested in getting SSR Comp in 16" with Goodyear GS-D3 or Avon Tech M500 in 205/50. I'm using it for daily driving and occasional Autocross. Since Tirerack only has SSR comp in 16x6.5 - is there much difference between 16x6.5 and 16x7.5? Probably most of you are using 7.5 wheels. Also, which tire should I go with? I definitely prefer the quietest tires for daily driving.

There were no stock 16x7.5 wheels

so it may effect your autoX class. If that doesn't matter, 7.5 will give you better cornering, but more noise. 6.5 will give you a lighter wheel, and if you run a narrower tire, a bit better gas milage. But a smaller contact patch, hence a bit less grip.

I have had both the avons and goodyears on my car--the avons are quieter, wet/dry grip very close--but to be fair, the avons were 215 vs. 205 for the goodyears.

I use 16x7.5 wheels with 205/50-16 Avon M500s for daily driving and the occasional autocross (when the weather isn't compatible with R compounds). This combination works very well on the street, did well in the rain and cold (30s-40s) autocrossing, and is very quite compared to the Azenis I used to run both on the street and in STX.

I haven't tried the Goodyears, but heartily endorse the Avons for the kind of use you propose. This size works well with the 7.5" wheel too. If you don't care what class you're in for autocrossing (even a stock MCS can be regionally competitive in STX), that's the route I'd take.
