Springs for Roof Rack Bike System
Hey MCer's
I have a Thule rack system for my 05 MC and it works great for hauling all kinds of things, wood, beds, Ikea stuff
and my bikes too.
The Mini is short and stiff, this makes the bikes torque the rack, roof and rain gutters
while driving, on less the great roads, or in high winds.
I start thinking, theres got to be a better way
. What if the rack had shocks like the car
? A stop at Ace hardware to buy compression springs, some "U" bolts, nuts, washers and ready to fix the torque issues.
By adding the four springs you see in the below pics, I hope you can see them, I have zero torgue to the rack, roof, rain gutters or bikes. I still slow down when the bikes are on top, but I don't have to slow "way" down for driveways and such. The cool thing, is the bikes lean with the corners and ride much better over bumps in the road.
Overall I'm very happy with the system and hope it may help someone.
If you can't find the pics, feel free to email for them. Still new to this pics on posting thing.
