Review: Cooper Tires Zeon ZPT
Review: Cooper Tires Zeon ZPT
A while back, I bought 16" wheels and Cooper Zeon ZPT tires for my MC. I wanted a wider tire and wanted to stay as close as possible to the overall diameter of the 15" stockers, so I went with a 205/50-R16.
I liked the idea of putting Cooper tires on a Cooper, so I bought them even though I could not find any reviews online or anyone else who had tried them.
I took a chance. Now that I've driven on them a few thousand miles, I can say don't make the same mistake I did.
Here's my review:
The Good
It's a very nice looking tire with an aggressive looking tread pattern.
Reasonable price.
They are very quiet, even at (much more than the speed limit) highway speeds.
The ride is also very good. Much more comfortable than run-flats.
The Bad
The dry handling is not very good. The tires don't stick to the road like they should, especially when going around curves or even making turns. I now have a torque steer problem, which is really surprising, since a Cooper with CVT doesn't have that much torque.
The Ugly
The wet handling is terrible. Scary is probably a better word. Driving in the rain feels like driving on ice. And it's Houston, so I know there is no ice. This is the reason why I cannot recommend this tire.
I'll keep them until they wear out, but I'm buying Goodyears or Yokohamas next time.

I agree with you. I bought a set a year or two ago.. couldnt wait till I roasted them bald. (i was the burnout king for a while) Then I bought a set of the Dunlops 901M's which I liked alot.. Currently tring a set of the Hankooks for Autox and Falken 512's for street use.
yeah my friend at work made the mistake we were on a spirited run, and he was behind me, he had to slow down because did not have any grip, and this is South Texas, roads are pretty hot during summer.
I always try to buy the best tire to my needs, as high as i can afford, b/c tires are the most important mod on a car.
