Chili Red Paint

Some yaahoo keyed my hood. I have been trying to get Chili Red paint. The parts people in Portland, Or tell me that the BMW chili red is not the same as the Cooper chili red. He says take it to the body shop and have them match it. Anyone have any input on this?

Get the paint code from the inner fenderwell, the number, and give it to them.

Yes, I did get the code (851) and that's why I called the dealer. He said they didn 't have it and the only way was to get the body shop to try and match it. Don't want to paint the whole hood because the scratch is on top and side of the front fender, but since it is one piece hood-fender there's not a good seam to cut the paint. Paint match in this application is critical.

The paint code for Chili Red does not match, each batch is different and the Chili Red is hard to match. My body shop painted a set of bumpers from the paint code and when we mounted they were off, to dark. We painted Cool Blue from the paint code and it was a perfect match.
