Navigation & Audio Ice, Ice, Baby!
Ice, Ice, Baby!
I just wanted to post how happy I am to have Icelink + back in my car and how easy it was to install. I had the Icelink in my M3, installed by a friend in the audio business. I pulled it out when I sold the car, found out that only the wiring harness was different for the MINI, and got the new harness from Dension directly. Had it sitting around a couple of months, too scared to tear into the dash myself, and too cheap to pay someone else to. Last week, I finally broke down and called my friend but he was too busy to immediately commit to an installation time. I got brave yesterday, armed with the dash dismantling tips from mini2.com, and did it myself. Once I got the head unit out, it was 5 minutes or less to get the Icelink bridged in, turned on the radio, and .....nothing. I called the Dension support line and they told me to make sure none of the pins had pulled out of the harness. Sure enough, two had (not happy about that, need to find a way to prevent them from pulling out.) Five minutes to put the dash back together and voila! Ipod integration, ID3 tags on head unit, etc. Didn't have time to take a picture, but I made a very simple mount from an L-shaped bracket bought at Lowes, connected to the left side downtube screw, the Ipod is just right of the steering column. Not the most visible or convenient, but you really shouldn't be scrolling through menus while driving anyway. I just can't say enough about how happy I've been with the Icelink, it renders CD's obsolete.
