Engine oil consumption + Noise.

Hello there..!
Well I'm seeking for some advises here..

I have a 05 mcs with almost 20k miles on it
recently, I started noticing much rougher sound when I drive it..
More of 'harder' engine sound i say?

So I popped my bonnet just for curiousity and checked things out..
man. the engine was ridiculously loud.. it was just shaking, making crazy knocking sounds and all.

knocking sounds existed awhile back but it seems much louder now.
Also I checked my oil level (about 8k miles on dealer 1st service oil) and it showed a little lower than half. (a little below half of the dip tip)

Yeah the oil has been in the car for a bit long.. because I just could not pop the oil pan plug out..(stupid dealer) but I will be changing the oil tomorrow or on tuesday with mobil 1.

my questions are..

are the engine noise / shaking normal with FI cars?
and should I add some more oil just incase??

grrrr
i hope my mini is alright...

knocking is NOT a good sound. ask the dealer if there were metal shavings in the oil... you should hope there isn't. keep the oil at the full mark.

Should you have more oil? Well you said you were changing it so I'll assume you're going to put in the proper amount and that will bring it up to full.

As long as the oil wasn't BELOW the add mark you should be alright in that respect, but its better to have it up to the full mark, especially if you drive it hard at all.

Could your engine mounts be busted somehow? I thought that I read accounts of that happening but have no idea if it would result in those issues...

I have to agree though that something seems to be wrong :(

Another option is to take some of that oil and have it tested! This can tell you a whole lot about your motor and what you can do to make things even better. Just a thoguht.
