Am I the only one that would love to get an in-dash CD changer/receiver? I don't think I've even seen anyone else mention it, but I've secretly wished for this since day one. I have been searching the Internet for options and have found very few overall. Since these devices have been available for years, I'm surprised that they aren't more popular.

It seems to me that the MINI is a prime candidate for one of these space-saving designs.... I wish it were even an OEM option - do away with the boot changer altogether.

Is there something intrinsically bad about these devices that I don't know? Am I missing something here?

I have a friend with one that came stock in her Mazda P5. It seems okay. It holds 3 to 5 CDs (I think). I agree with you. The front changer idea would be a better option than the rear changer. I haven't seen it in a while, but if I remember right, the deck was larger than a regular DIN size deck. Which means that it wouldn't fit in the MINI without re-aranging things.

Since there hadn't been any replies here, I was starting to become convinced that I was indeed alone in my desire (which is fine, because I think uniqueness is a virtue ).

Although you may be right about the DIN size for these devices in general, I know I have seen at least a few that are a standard DIN size such as this Nakamichi:

After further consideration though, I wouldn't just eliminate the boot changer - go ahead and leave it as an option for the folks who would like to have 12 CDs! But, I still wish MINI would offer this. As you mentioned with your friend's Mazda, I know there are other makes that offer them as well.

That would be a great option for the Mini, IMO. I never thought about using a cd changer until I got hooked on the one that came with my 2001 Mustang. It holds 6 discs and the best part is I don't have to have the console full of cd cases. I leave the cases at home.

Our family cars include a Lexus and BMW 7 series- both include an in-dash CD AND and a changer which rests quit comfortabley in the glove box- I would love to see this kind of a design for my Cooper( CMFMC). my current vehicle (Golf) has an indash cassette and a CD changer in the trunk. I opted for buying a cassette run MP3 player because of the in accessible changer on long drives (particularly rush-hour commutes with nothing but talk on the radio and no place to pull over and change CDs) Let me know if anyone has intalled either an in-dash or glov box MPS- I would love the details. Thanks!
