Factory Navigational + iPod

Hello,

Waiting for my new Mini, ordered the Navigational System. Never had one before. Can anyone give some feedback on how they like it.

I'm also gonna get the ipod adapter in my glove box from the dealer. I believe I'll be able to control it via my steering wheel mounted buttons. Again would love to here some feedback about this too.

Thanks

I have ordered both as well and will be trying them out in two or three weeks. Regarding the NAV, just be sure that your dealership ensures that the latest versions of the software and the Map DVD disk are loaded on receipt. I have heard stories of new MINIs arriving with old loadsets - and the new ones are much better. I just made this an issue up front and they had no problem promising me the latest. Many say justifiably that he NAV system is old technology (no touch screen, no voice command) but I have a friend with a BMW which contains the same system - and it should be more than fine for my needs.

I am curious as to how the iPod feature will work out - I specifically bought an iPod for Christmas as the intended music library for the car and am currently loading it up. I understand that you can't see the descriptive information from the iPod in the head unit - just playlist number and track number, both of which are controllable from the steering wheel. That is probably just as well since I can't imagine scrolling an iPod and driving safely. I guess you set up playlists for your driving needs and flip between and within them.

Good luck with it all -

Bill

The really great thing about NAM is that it is a tremendous knowledge base. I am sure that any question you might have - has been discussed ad-nauseum. In fact there is a whole forum dedicated to just this subject - I found it- very useful during that pins and needles time of waiting for my mini to arrive.

Welcome

I have the Nav and it works great. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of aftermarket systems, but will you really ever use them? My Nav gets me where I need to go.

As for the IPOD adapter, BMW had discontinued it until it was revamped. Apparently they had issues with the earlier ones. I have heard via BMW Munich that they are releasing a new one early this year that will be more like the IceLink Plus. I purchased an Icelink Plus and love it. It will let me control the IPOD via the steering wheel and it plugged right into the system with no splicing needed. There was enough cable to run it where ever I wanted.
