Have 2 stereo problems - help

I bought a used Mini with factory Ipod unit. It has two quirks:

- After the stereo has been on for about an hour, it just turns shuts off. Turn it back on and it's fine for another hour.

- When I turn off the engine, the stereo keeps playing.

These problems occur regardless of whether I'm using the Ipod or not. I'm going to open it up and have a looksie. Any ideas on what I should be looking for? Know which color wires are responsible for the bugs?

thanks,
francois

An hour or 20 minutes?

There are two "supply" wires to the radio - one is permanent and one is switched with ignition.
The radio can be turned on when only the permanent is present (ie: when the ignition is off) - but it will turn off after 20 minutes to save the battery.

If your car has a wiring issue with the ignition switched wire, it would of course not turn on/off wth ignition, and it would also turn off after 20 minutes.

Can't remember the pin numbers but you can find a drawing in the MINI2 FAQ

It could very well be 20 minutes. Time flies when I'm Mini-ing.

What you're saying makes sense. This behavior is good if the ignition was off. However it happens even when I'm driving the car. So I prob'ly have lines crossed.

Did you wire it yourself or use the existing plug on the car's harness?

I took pins out of the harness to install the factory Ipod unit. The colors of the wires didn't match the directions exactly.

Ah, then it is quite possible that you have the two power wires reversed or the ignition-on wire is in the wrong place.
