I can't find any references on sites selling the unit that verify it works with the HK sound system. Several make reference to working with standard system but not '02s. I'd like to surprise the wife and get this for her '05 with HK stereo.

 

I have the factory H/K system in my '05 MCS and also the OEM MINI iPod adaptor. The adaptor has worked flawlessly since I got the car 10 months ago. It was installed by the dealer prior to delivery. I use it everyday with my 4GB Black iPod Nano. The sound quality is stunning to say the least.

Just to clarify, the Harmon Kardon stereo upgrade, although was advertaised in early 2002 sales literature, was not available in production until December 2002 which was the beginning of the 2003 model year. No 2002 US spec MINIs were ever fitted with the H/K from factory.

Also, I am not sure if the OEM iPod adaptor will work with the standard 2002 factory stereo. I know it will work with stereos from the 2003+ model year. Ask your dealer about compatibility before purchasing

 

We have it on our 2006 MCS, and it works fine. My only complaint is that the iPod information (artist, song, etc.) is not displayed on the head unit.
