Reduced MPG

I've noticed that since it's gotten colder, my MPG has gone from around 28 to 24. Could this be due to the increased performance from the supercharger by the cold air? I'm not driving any differently and was getting much better gas milage during the summer.

It more likely is due to the "winter" formulated fuel that contains ethonal. The ethonal in the mixture will cause a decrease in mpg.

I've also noticed a lost in fuel economy since the beginning of winter, but my car seems to pull harder, so it's all good! lol

Yep, winter gas around here dropped me from about 26-27 MPG to 21-22.

I'll take lower MPG over a frozen fuel line though.

not sure about canada, but in the US people that get winterized gas
notice earlier timing retards than normal from the cold air + easier
burning fuel. you actually get worse performance unless you can
get higher octane gas in the dry, cold air.

yes, winter gas formulas and colder temps

you have to bring that engine block up to temp before anything efficient happens.. that takes a bit of energy to do.

don't forget to check your tire pressures.

Actually, as I understand it the "reformulated" gas for the winter has nothing to do with frozen lines, it's just to reduce emissions... and it's only required in some states.

Unfortunately the "reduced emissions" also means "reduced economy and performance"! However, the performance aspect is made up somewhat by the fact that cars love cold air.

Yea, the Mini is definitely performing better I guess due to the cold air. And we here in GA do have emissions restrictions so maybe this could be true.
