blown shocks + Aftermarket springs = u ?

Who here had experienced blown shocks as a result from aftermarket springs?

May be a silly question, but the more iam reading here on NAM, the more iam finding stuff about blown shocks and aftermarket springs. Just wondering how accurate the stuff im reading is.

If what i understand is incorrect - pls feel free to add ur 2c of info to clarify things.

Cheers.

are you planning to put aftermarket springs?

I had mine (h-sport) almost 1500 miles, nothing has blown yet . there is bunch of guys here running on lowering springs, have not heard any failures so far. But of course, someone will write a nightmare story in the following posts, never fails

Blown? No. Worn out? Yup. The combo of springs/LSD/R-compound tires/autocrossing did toast my oem dampers. They were still fine on the street but became too worn for continued autocrossing.

Every damper has a power band. Like an engine, a damper's power band illustrates its optimal performance spectrum. Shorter springs matched to a stock damper simply ask the stock dampers to operate outside their power band more often. Often, heat is the culprit; this leads to worn or blown seals, degraded oil in the damper etc.

Mass acts on the springs and the characterisitcs of the mass/spring relationship determine the characteristics of the damper. One way of viewing this scenerio is to imagine a mass acting on a spring without any damping. Then, thru an intuitive, iterative and compromised process, the damper's cycles or frequencies are chosen based upon how we want to dampen the mass and spring combo. Part of this process is pure engineering as it relates to durability and function. The black-art or intuitive part is based upon feel.
