Tap-in power from cigarette lighter for XM power

Anyone do it? I am thinking of using these from Radio Shack to tap into the cigarette lighter power to hardwire my XM roady and keep the cigarette lighter socket open. The wiring part seems pretty easy, but I am curious as to the best and easiest way to get to the cigarrette lighter wires.

Anyone do this, please let me know - would love some tips. (going to try it out on our honda first just to be safe)

If you want to really really tap into your cigarette lighter, you can use ADD-A-FUSE (I think that's the name of it, I got mine from PepBoys) and tap into it using your fuse box ... Check out this link..

But if you still want to use what you got from Radio Shack, getting to the cigarette lighter is not all that bad , but just cumbersome.. It requres a lot of removing of the panel, console, and stuff..

I would use my first suggestion ..

I'd go with the Add a Fuse

This way you don't have to cut/tap into any factory wiring at all. The Add-A-Fuse is a completely clean/reversible solution that has the added benefit of an in-line fuse to protect against shorts or your added on circuit drawing too much current.

I have one hooked up to fuse position #36 (switched by the ignition in the "on" position) powering a Belkin iPod Charger/Audio input and my V1 Radar detector with room for one more 12V source (using a hacked up 1 -> 3 cig lighter/accessory adapter).

Thanks for the help. So the add a fuse is something like this? It just plugs into the fusebox and I just add my wires to it? This seems almost too easy

"using a hacked up 1 -> 3 cig lighter/accessory adapter"? I think I am missing something. I am planning on only have the XM hard wired. Maybe my ipod at some point. Since I charge my phone in car s rarely, I think I'll plug it in if I need to use it.

I installed the XM antenne and am loving the less clutter. So I need to get this right and then hide the ground loop isolator and I will be mighty happy my setup. Also waiting for my KUDA mount to arrive. Hoping to have everything done before the 15th when I get my graphics done.
