DRL discount on Insurance

As my Mini is still in shipment, I was feeling around for Car Insurance quotes...

My current carrier... Geico... quoted me $50 off per six months by having the DRL option activated....

Sounds good to me!

That sounds like a nice deal. As much as I dislike DRL I have to admit they do make one more visilbe. If you have xenons does the DRL mean the xenons are on all the time?

No. The high beam lamp (actually the lower bulb) is used at 50% power for the DRL.

Really? I have to check my policy because I have DRL on both of my cars and I don't recall that discount.

edit:

Response from Geico on my request concerning a drl discount.

The feature of daytime running lights is incorporated into the rating
and premium determination of the vehicle. It is not listed as a separate
discount. We do have on file that both your cars are equipped with
daytime running lights.

We also get a discount with the DRL activated. I'd prefer to not have it but discount = mod money (even if it is minimal)

One of the quote questions... "Does this vehicle have daytime running lights? yes/no "

the word must be on the streets...

Yep.

Check with your carrier. USAA offer a DRL discount, as well as an alarm discount which I still need to have installed!

The discount USAA gives me for DRL is only $4 every 6 months. I don't think that's going to make a big difference on my bill. I get the discount for having DRL, no difference whether they're on or not.
