JCW kit for 5-speed MCs production date up to 7/04 on sale at huge savings...........

OK, the brochure at Roadshow said it was a huge savings. It's $2,580 + tax, installed, at Roadshow. It includes a machined cylinder head, cat-back exhaust, air filter element and updated ECU programming. HP goes to 126 and torque to 114 ft. lb..
Also, a new plastic engine cover with JCW works on it and new JCW emblems for the outside of your MINI.
Looks to me like the air filter, exhaust and ECU update could all be gotten for maybe $750, and the result would be at least 90% of what you would get from this $2800, (tax included) kit.
Or, use your $2800 to help with trading your MC for an MCS.
It does come with a 2 year or the remainder of your factory MINI warranty, whichever is longer.
I'd like to have it but couldn't justify the cost.

Anyone have or considering this kit for their MC?

It seems to me that for the apparent modest power gains (115 vs 126HP), the $2900 admission price for the Cooper JCW kit is best invested in upgrading to a MCS imho.

I am interested in reading reviews from people that have driven the JCW Cooper.

So is Roadshow selling this as an official (approved for US sale) package or is this some kind of under the table deal?

Too bad the Cooper CVT will never see a JCW engine kit upgrade.

I picked up the brochure for the kit from a table just inside the showroom door at Roadshow. I'm sure it's an official approved deal, (pretty sure anyway).

For more info call Todd Fulford at 901-365-2584 ext 6892. The Roadshow wesite is www.roadshowmini.com. I haven't checked the website to see if the kit is mentioned on it.

The kit has been around since 2001 and was released in very small numbers in the US starting in late spring of 2004. It was the first JCW product ever released (before there even was a Cooper S!).

A few US MINI dealers still have some in stock and from what I've heard they're interested in making deals to move them.

You can read all about the US introduction here: http://www.motoringfile.com/2004/04/...ming_to_the_us

Thanks for the additional information. Expensive or not I would really like to have this kit.......but, my $2800 must be spent elsewhere.

I have seen this before, it used to be advertised on the John Cooper web site. It still is listed at http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...3&mospid=48014 under Engine accessories. I have wondered if it would really be a benefit for the MC? Because if it is I definetly would like to have it done.

Mentioned wanting a JCW kit to my wife. She replied, "what does this J C Whitney kit do?" I tried to explain and she said, "we need a new carpet in the living room", which I admit we do.

What are the chances of me getting the JCW kit?

I would like to put that kit on my MINI, but the cost is too much. I am saving for a used Dodge Viper, not a Cooper S!

Got a target date on when you think you'll have enough for the Viper AND gas to run it?

4 years from now, maybe sooner. It shouldn't be a problem. With the MINI paid off and my wifes car paid off, that will definitely free up some cash. I figure the Viper will get driven at most 2000 miles a year. That figures to be 200 gallons of gas figuring 10 miles per gallon. At $3 a gallon, that is $600 a year for gas.

Just noticed on the 06 MINIUSA configurator for the MC an $1100 JCW kit. Exhaust, air filter, special ECU programming, JCW emblems and dress-up items for the engine. This doesn't strike me as being too bad a deal. I suppose this is without installation, but it shouldn't take long to install. Also, someone other than your MINI dealer could easily do it...with the possible exception of the ECU upgrade.

Maybe there is hope for a JCW something for my Cooper.

Gabe, let us know when you drive/hear an MC with the "sound kit" installed.
