Air intake for '05 MC...

I've had the car for almost a year now. Are any of the vendors working on an intake for us with '05 regular Coopers. It can't be that hard. Has anyone heard any news, or rumors?

Yes, we have talked about it before. But that wasn't my question. I don't want to mod one. I want to buy one of the shelf and drop it in.

Ain't that the truth. I've heard myminiparts is working on something. Also PiperCross is looking for '05 Coopers to test new filters. Too bad they are in England, otherwise I'd be all over that. At this point I am hoping K&N will come up with something.

So there are a bunch of mods for '02-'04, 3 model years worth of cars. '05 and the '06 will more than likely be the same parts, so 2 model years. If you figure in the increase in sales for '05 and presumably '06 then it probably works out to the same number of cars.

Therefore, I would expect that the performance vendors will get off their collective butts and start making parts for our cars.

Wait, I see a business opportunity with a captive audience.

Well, a reply I got today from a vendor to an enquiry said something to the effect of:

"We do not see enough interest in this product to make it worth our while at this time. Maybe later." It was written a lot nice than my parafrasing. I find this very frustrating. The change seems to be minor. How hard can it be?

Rednwhitecooper, how hard was the install on your Moss? A little triming and bending? I will be installing one next week on a friend's Cooper.

OK then, how about this one from Injen
I believe that K&N makes one as well.

I was under the impression that the Moss intake fit '05s. Apparently Randy Webb is, too, since he sold one to me. Luckily it never arrived.

I'm going to go way out on a limb and guess that that one won't actually fit an '05.

Was it Alta? Sounds like the same response I got from them regarding their drop-in filter. However after a couple of months they did say they were going to make it. But I haven't seen it yet. (just the drop-in)

I am leery of anything that says it fits 02-05. Just ask RednWhiteCooper. He had to mod his. Unless they specifically say that it fits '05, have actually tried it and have pictures to prove it, I am not buying.

No, not Alta. A different vendor, but I don't want to name names. The attitude seems to be the same though. I wander what the break even point is for them to make the product? 200 units, 500, 1000?

K&N does make one. For 02-04. Run their configurator for '05 and all you are going to get is the drop in panel filter.

RednWhite,

So what did you do? Grind it to lower the filter/adjust the angle on the tube? If so, how freagging hard is it for all these vendors to just make a new tube.

there was a long bracket that went from the filter to the tranny mount (nonexistant on an 05) and attached it to the tube. it was pointless as the filter is more than stury just with the boot to the throttle body.

figures, the one time an aftermarket company does some nice tig welds, i have to grind them all off. also, i had to scuff the "anodized" coating to get the sillicone boots to stay put and seal. oh yeah, i say "anodized" because it chipped off the tube, it looks like hokey paint. i have to repaint it soon here.....

if you want, if you dont feel like doing it or dont have the proper grinder and such, just send ot to me and i can set it up on my car and get it dialed in for you.

I appreciate the offer RednWhite. If someone doesn't come to the market in the next couple of months, I just might take you up on it.

I also find it frustrating to find parts for my 05 MC... But I did put the K&N Typhoon on my car and it fits, just touching the inside liner... It is on super tight though and I don't find it to be a problem with performance. It does the job. Sound is GREAT. I may just trim out a square of the hood liner to solve the problem alltogether. It also looks like the moss product is smaller than the K&N too, so it should totally fit.

Good luck -

I would check with the Brits.....they are much more into modding Coopers than we are. The insurance rates are very high in England so there are more Coopers modded over there

I get "Go Mini" and there.......

I just picked up the magazine for you.

Check with K&N and Pipercross from www.minisport.com.uk
or www.minspeed.com.uk
