Starting Place

There was a Haynes manual tossed in the trunk of mine when I got it (79).

Some hate Haynes but it has been a decent ref for me. I bought a book just on SU carbs though, to supplement. Haynes seemed pretty deficient there. But it was good enuf to walk thru an engine swap....

Haynes is pretty easy to come by from any of the primary parts vendors.

See MiniMania, MiniSpares and MiniSport, Seven and Triple-C ....

I always used Haynes.
I just wish they (or SOMEONE) would make a manual for my wife's Subaru.

The Factory book (still available from Bentley, shown here : http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=ymw1and sold by the various Mini parts stores) is still my favorite,
but Vizard's "bible" 'How To Modify Your Mini' is great for filling
in the blanks (and his 'Tuning The A-Series Engine' is the third
"must-have" for the dedicated Mini owner).
If you can get your hands on a Factoy Parts List, the exploded
line drawing format is great for showing how it's all assembled.

The MOSS Europe Classic Mini parts catalog has pretty good exploded drawings. Thanks for reminding me. Several times this catalog has been what told me what part I REALLY needed. And it's cheap too!

I’ve restored several Minis over the past 18 years and I buy every book I can get my hands on - they all have unique data. The two previously mentioned ones are the first I would buy. Then check these out:
