Ac

Anyone else with an '05 think the A/C just isnt cold enough?

I hate running it, but its really damn hot in Chicago lately and my girlfriend just cannot survive without it.

Anyway, it seems for that as much power as it robs from me that it should be a LOT colder. Anyone else? Should I call my dealer?

Check w/ the dealer if you want or can. Some have reported that excess freon (from the factory) in the system may affect it's performance. Also, you might try a search....in the last few week there were at least two good threads on the subject. May find some additional helpful info.

Don't make your dear gf suffer, though.

I have an '05 S w/. automatic climate control, and the system puts out cold enough air for me. I would definitely consider a trip to the dealer to have everything checked out. Just out of curiousity, why do you hate running the a/c in your car?

I love having the windows down. I guess I just like the outside feeling and not feeling like I am a prisoner in a glass and steel box.

Thats all...and it robs so damn much power and throttle response.

Presumably, you have a Cooper (as opposed to the S)?

No, I have an S. The power loss with the A/C on is def noticeable. Especially on launch, on an uphill slope.

Damn nears dies if I am not humping the accelerator.

I've got an 05 also and the AC has been fine so far. Also don't have trouble with power loss but thats probably the JCW. I would have the dealer check it out.

It is not enough for me. Especially on these 90F days with 95% humidity :(

Feels like driving a phone booth?

I remember driving those old 70's GM cars with the real "Frigidaire" brand A/C that used 5lbs of Freon. Could freeze drinks to ice in front of the vents In every modern car I have to crank the fan way up and turn the recirculate on to barely cool things down. But the compressors are no longer the size of fire logs...

There is a new oroduct called ICE. distributed throiugh Standard Motor Parts that is added to the freon and gives you 2-5 degree colder air. I cannot find out any more. Any one know about it? We just have had 2 days of 104 in Texas--need something
