Mini Cooper Cabrio Roof Wear

Hello All,

I am a new mini cooper cabrio owner (less than a week), took the car on the floor and told it was there for only 3 days. I just love it. I have been reading on the net on the 'other' forum about abnormal roof wear on the convertibles. Has anyone experienced this issue here in the states? Also, any experience the back window shattering due to the cold?

Thanks in advance.

I've had my Cabrio since Oct. No back window shattering. I do have 2 identical spots on each side of the roof that I am watching. They usually appear like white marks but lately I've noticed them becoming shiny. I also have the eliptical scratches on both rear side windows. My 10K check will be due this summer so I think I'll tackle it all then. And also get my rear fog light installed Otherwise, I love my Cabrio

As a fellow cabrio - I was considering getting one of the following options;

1. Wind deflector
2. Fog lights/rear light
3. Sat. Radio

Do you use snow tires in St. Louis?

I bought the wind deflector about 1 month ago & am glad I did it. It really cuts down on the tunneling of wind between the seats. If you put the windows up, you don't even realize the top is down

I have a Sirius plug & play. I found a mounting made for the MINI that attaches to the pillar along side the toggles. I put the antenna thru the roof opening right next to the factory antenna. I love my Sirius

My Cabrio does not have the rear fog light & does not have the wiring harness in place(pre Oct 04 build). I understand that by May it will be available & I'll probably have it installed this summer. I do have the front fogs & they really light up the roads at night. I did not have them on my 03 MINI & I'm glad I got them on Sunnie.

In St Louis, we can usually get by on all season tires. I had no problems this winter but then we didn't get a lot of snow. I switched to 17 inch performance tires about 2 weeks ago & have really noticed a difference in the handling. Much less tire rolling in the twisties!

Being a former Miata owner, I now have the best of both world's. The joy of motoring & the feel of the wind in my hair:smile: :smile: Congrats on your new Cabrio

I have had mine for two weeks now and I have both the roof wear and the scratches on the rear side windows. At this point they are hardly noticeable. We will see what happens.

I am more worried about my neighbor's cats. I left the car out of the garage for no more than ten minutes the other morning and came back to find on the roof a bunch of cat hair and some snags in the fabric from claws. Luckily it was minor this time. This is really going to be a pain if I everytime I drive the car I have to hide it back in the garage. I wonder how my neighbor will feel if I show up at her door with a $5,000.00 bill for a new top.

Sorry about the rant but there must be ten different cats getting into my yard all the time, pooping in our garden and the kid's sandbox, killing the birds and squirrels my kids love to watch, and now trashing the top on my car. I am so sick of this. How would these people like it if I had a pit bull that I let loose in their yards. Don't get me wrong, I love cats. Just keep them home and don't inflict them on me and my property.

Well, that was a bit off topic but I feel better now.

Yikes! That's really an extreme number of cats roaming around. Although there are a number of things you can do to reduce the cat population, you may want to consider those car covers which only protects the car down to the waistline so that it protects the windows from ice in winter. It'll have a different use given your location, but at least you'll avoid having to undergo a cat-scan from the headache if your hood is damaged. Good luck.
