readying 2009 for Marketplace listing: tips on pricing and presentation?
me, posting earlier:
I’m preparing to list my much enjoyed (okay: beloved) 2009 Mini Cooper S (R56) for sale and would like help confirming some original factory options. I’ve had this Mini since new—it’s 2009 Pepper White with twin black racing stripes, 6-speed manual, leather seats, Harman/Kardon stereo, panoramic roof, and other upgrades.
One small dent on the front hood where my husband dropped a drill from a ladder while building his shop).
Thanks again to the NAM forum for the help earlier with verifying factory options! that’s all done now.
I’ll be posting this car for sale soon—likely here on NAM Marketplace and maybe Craigslist or Autotrader too.

Happy to answer any questions or schedule a showing for serious buyers in the Sacramento/Bay Area.
That’s it so far. I’d love tips on pricing and presentation. So far, a friend told me to add “No Smoking, No Pets, No Coffee. Title in Hand.”
If anyone wants a sneak preview for now, photos below. I have more photos once I am ready to list, but am not sure exactly what to feature in these photos.
Is there anything else I should include in the listing to attract serious buyers (especially those who appreciate the manual transmission)? Appreciate your insights!

p.s. why selling? Now 70 years old, I purchased a used 2022 Mini Cooper S in December 2024 for CarPlay, new features, automatic transmission, etc Definitely not as much fun to drive as the manual R56 but also a very nice car! (across the street in this photo). I’m finally ready to let go so a new owner can enjoy this wonderful car. I know other people say “omg, get rid of this car!” but it’s been amazing and mostly trouble-free for me, with routine maintenance and regular repairs as needed. Will need new shocks pretty soon.

You might mention any timing chain repairs. N14s don't have a good history in that department. I recently paid $5600 for a somewhat similar 2011 (with a rebuilt engine). I think you're priced a little high even though it's a clean example.

Thank you for your reply.
The price seemed high to me too but what was recommended by the always-fanciful ChatGPT after it crawled Sacramento/SF Bay Area’s and the California’s regions in Cars.com, Autotrader, etc.
I wondered if California used car prices may have been temporarily driven up by the terrible Palisades fire; along with losing everything else, many thousands of cars were destroyed by that fire in a city that has no public transportation.
With the real specs in hand from the VIN, KBB suggested $5000-6300.
As I know this Mini will need shocks (say the reports we had done)— and thanks to you, now know that it is likely to need a timing chain—I’ll probably bring the price to the bottom end of that range.
In addition, someone let me know about California’s law that requires sellers to have a car smogged within 90-days of a sale. Naturally, I had that done about four months ago, so that’s on the “to do” list too.
Thank you for getting me closer to posting the car information.
