Missing power when shifting
Missing power when shifting
Hey folks, I have a 6-speed manual and in the last couple months I've noticed the car feels different. It has no codes, and I did the supercharger service about 2 years ago so it should be fine. I'm not sure if I'm shifting too fast or what, but the cars RPM's go up after I shift as if I hadn't taken my foot off the clutch completely then pressing the gas. Instead of accelerating, the RPM's just go up a little and I feel no boost. I feel like the car isn't really pulling like it used to, and I have no idea what it could be. I bought the car around 7 years ago and the point where the clutch grabs has always been pretty low (as in it grabs until maybe the last 1/4 of the movement). I have not noticed any changes in where it grabs and no noise. Could it be the clutch? Let me know what you guys think.
Another issue I'm having that might be related is that for about a year, the car struggles to start on the first crank and if it does it idles terribly for about 5 seconds, acting like it wants to shut off. I sort of chalked it up to the cold at first, but when it kept happening, I scanned the car. It has no codes, so I checked the starter and a couple of sensors, then I sort of just got used to it. Other than those two things, it's in great condition.

My guess;
#1_ Slipping clutch and/or worn pressure plate.
#2_Could possibly be time for a fuel filter change. Also; check your sparkplugs for age and signs of excessive carbon build-up or oil.
I've only ran top tier 93 or 91 fuel and add a bottle of injector cleaner at least 2 or 3 times a year (every 4,000 mi or so).
Just my guess.
Edit:
You may also want to pull #2 & #3 plug wires on the coil pack and check that they aren't corroded or show signs of electrolysis. If so just burnish off the crud with emory cloth or 220 grit sand paper.

I'll go take a look at the fuel filter and coils. To see if it was the clutch, I went ahead and put it in 5th while parked and took out the clutch and it didn't stall so I guess it's time for a new one. Thanks forl the tips (:
