The dreaded R56 Air bag light 93C3 occupant sensor mat code repair not bypass
Please Help
I need some advice The air bag illuminated on my dash including a seatbelt warning light in my 2009 R56
I realize they go hand in hand.
None the less I have spent countless hours researching this problem to fix it correctly and have found very little as it seems everybody takes the easy way out and just bypasses it using some sort of plug n play device that you can buy on eBay for the low price of $60
I want to fix it correctly for the least amount of money. I am using Creator scan tool to pull the obd2 srs code 93C3 ACSM/MRS: Seat occupancy detector,Passenger.
In using the scan tool I found 2 things wrong
1 the passenger seat belt buckle does not shut off when clicking the belt in ,seat belt buckle icon stays lit on the dash, scan tool shows it "not responding"
is this because of the weight mat in the seat? also the overhead passenger light says ON but the scan tool says its off? that part makes no sense. I replaced the seat belt buckle as well and no difference.
I pulled apart the dome light to have a look see of the wire plugs and all looks good no issues there.
Anyways it seems that the Sensor mat needs to be replaced. which I have started the process of replacing. After reading the prices and found that the New Passenger seat bottom foam under the upholstery comes with the sensor for around $750 I went to to the junk yard and found a 2011 mini Cooper with looked to be a decent passenger seat hardly sat in, I pulled that seat apart to get to the mat and also to see how hard or easy it was to pull it out.To my surprise it was pretty easy and was able to pull it out including the foam without even removing the seat, Don't ask ,hahahaha to my surprise the mat I pulled out had been replaced once before and the new mat was dated 2018. So I hope its good! So after reading and watching videos there was one guy who did the repair but made it seem like you could just plug it in and wa la problem fixed! Nope, not at all ,come to find out that the Sensor Mat has a serial bus and sends a digital signal which means I think the car has to relearn the new sensor mat to work.which brings me to my next question. I am ready to purchase a a scan tool like the Foxwell NT 710 or the Xtool scanner bi-directional scanners. What I need to know do these devices have the capability to recode that replaced sensor mat? Everywhere I look there is no info on whether those tools will do the job so I can move on with my life.I would like to use the Xtool as it works for many other cars. It appears that there are serial numbers bar codes including a digital scan QR codes on the Sensor mat itself. Anyways I have already torn my Passenger seat apart removed and replaced the sensor and it was pretty easy job taking the seat apart was nothing more than removing the torx screws on the side cover and removing the height adjustment arm and then using some wire dykes to cut the hog clips that hold the seat upholstery down, removing back to front and to be careful not to cut the sensor mat wires if your needing to save it for some reason, putting the seat upholstery back down on the seat bottom just takes patience and some zip ties to tie it back down into place. which I have successfully done in about 30 minutes total. if the new old sensor I bought is junk or wont work I will just buy a new foam bottom with sensor and have another stab at it
I just need a inexpensive bi directional scanner and the codes to recode right? the Foxwell NT 710 appears to work for Mini Cooper but will it get the job done?
