2004 R53 A/C Issue

Having some A/C issues (as well as some heating issues, but I believe that's different). I recently went to check out the A/C refridgerent and slapped the gauges on it. It showed that it was WAY over pressurized, so I removed some to reduce the pressure to "normal" levels based on the outside temps, etc.... Well now the A/C doesn't cool at all, just ambient. I'm assuming the fact that it needs to overpressure in order to cool indicates a blackage in the system. Reading through some other threads, the most likely culprit is the expansion valve? Any other potential blockages, I should be looking for?

As for the heat part, this issue started after I had a coolant hose blow and I had to replace the thermostat and radiator hose. I've bled the system umpteen times and occasionally I can get some heat to come out of th events when it's cold (the heat works fine in the dead of summer....)., but like 1 in 50 drives. I need to pull the dash apart to look at the door to make sure it's doing it's thing, but why would the overheating affect that? WHat else could go wrong from the hose blowing?

I know I have some troubleshooting to do, just been swamped with other things and wanted to get some ideas. Thanks in advance!

I assume you checked the pressures with the system operating? What were your high side and low side pressures? Usually, a high pressure cut-off switch will turn the compressor off when pressure is too high.

I would expect low side pressure around 30psi and high side pressure around 150-200psi.

As far as "what else could go wrong from the hose blowing", the answer is a lot. Does your engine overheat?

Define way over pressurized.

What were your static pressures (high and low sides). What were your pressures with the AC on and the engine at 2000 RPM? What was your ambient temperature when you connected your gauges?

The DME will shut off the AC compressor when the engine overheats, because the condenser coil dumps a bunch of heat into the radiator.

Have you tried vaccu filling the cooling system?
