R56 WTB auto transmission.
What are the signs of a failing valve body? Solenoids?
Slipped shifts/flaring, then eventually not shifting into some or all gears. The damage is most likely from MINI and other manufacurers s specifying the Aisin transmission as lifetime fluid, which was later revised to around 40k miles.
This can also be caused improper fluid level so a cheap attempt at fixing could be changing the fluid. Only around 2.5 quarts out of 6 drains because torque converter retains a lot of fluid so draining and refilling several times (at least 3?) with short drives in between are needed. Also to set the correct fluid level, the fluid temp must be in a specific range. Too hot will be under filled and too cold will be over.
This thread probably has the most info about the Aisin on this site: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...at-80k-15.html

You'll never find a brand spankin new transmission. The only ones you'll find are used ones as well as rebuilt or remanufactured ones. The remanufactured ones are pretty darn good. I highly recommend the remans over used ones.
