R56 What is this part? Smelt like an electrical burning smell. This is where it was from.
With all due respect, trying to diagnose a where a smell is coming from over the internet is going to be just about impossible.
That big silver part you circled is your high pressure fuel pump.

Warm to the touch means nothing, believe it or not. The human hand is designed to protect us from burns. NASA did a study that came up with ~113°F as the pain threshold for human touch.

Things get MUCH hotter than that in the engine bay of an automobile.
Below that side of the engine are the starter, steering motor, and thermostat, and the ECU is right on the other side of that intake tube.

I wondered what the shorting out or electrical burn smell might be. Just saying it was super hot hours later even compared to the exhaust.
helpful answers would be good. Just trying to find out from some experienced guys on here what it might be and not a lesson in the human body.
If you’re gonna take the **** then read something somewhere else and leave it up to someone who might want to help a newb. Thanks.
My initial answer was an attempt at being helpful. Diagnosing a smell over the internet is going to be near impossible. Too many electrical component in or near that area.
Try finding a local friend that has some experience with vehicles to help you out. Sometimes smoke will accompany an electrical smell. In that case it will be very easy to see where its coming from.
