Looking to lower the car and change struts. Went to a number of sites to purchase but was a little confused about which ones to buy. Are the Struts for the R 59 jcw unique for the JCW model or are they the same as the ones in the Sport suspension or with sport suspension?

 

All second gen struts and shocks are interchangeable, with the exception of the Countryman and Paceman.

If you want full adjustability, consider coilovers, like the Bilstein B14s. If you don’t want that much to fuss with, get a set of Bilstein B8s shocks and some NM RS Alpha springs:
