My research suggests first Gen checkered floor mats are slightly different.

Right, but OP didn’t yet confirm the part number(s). The change of logos did not correspond to the change of generations. And some R53 mats made in later years (2009+) use the new logo but are shaped for R53. Odd but true.
Will know for certain if the seller would check the part numbers on the back label of the mats and list them here to confirm.

I did add a photo of the tags on the mats to my listing.
Driver and Passenger mat have the same part number and are dated 01/2010
The rear mat does say R56.
I have had them in my R52 for 8 years, they look GORGEOUS
