new member here; back in the states, and sadly in the past I was involved in the Evo, STI, S2000 and M3 crowds.
Now much older, in another country, a nice new large garage to be in, and an early onset midlife crisis, I have decided to get back into tuned cars again.
I found a new to me 06/2006 R53 Chilli package. Like dating when I was younger, she looked good in the pictures, but once I got closer, it needed work. But driving it, brought back memories of my Evo. For such a firecracker, this thing has loads of grip, usable powerband, and braking that reminds me of my S2000.
So I purchased the car.
The day I purchased the car.
has 210k KMs tho… and has been modded…
The only rust on the body is a small spot under the driver side skirt close to the wheel arch. That’s it.
I repaired some items just to get it some what reliable.
New coolant expansion tank, new thermostat and housing, new passenger engine mounts, lower engine mount, new power steering fan, repaired the hack job repair on the exhaust.
The exhaust is TÜV approved, the coil overs and the 18 wheels/tires.
Coilovers are cheapo sets, that has dampening from a pogo stick. And the wheels to me seems too large.
Putting on a decent set of coilovers will be easier since the car has it approved already, and in the spring I’ll be stepping down to 17s.
Nice find! I agree - what are the benefit of the super cheap coilovers on the market other than to say 'hey, I got coilovers!'? Just put a good pair of struts in there and stop being a poser! (not you!). I further agree with you - those wheels are too big. Lots of nice 17" wheel options.
