Hi all! I bought a R56 Cooper S N14 DOHC (2007 model) recently but have started getting some leaks soon after purchase. The car has done 69,000 miles, so quite low for its age. Your guidance would be appreciated as hope this is not a sign of things to come.
For the first image, I am told I need new engine valve cover - would you agree and might there be something else needed? Also, is this a labour intensive repair?
For the next two photos been told perhaps the crank shaft seal (is it part 11117568264?) and some other seal might be the cuplrit - any help would be appreciated if you think this is the case and the cost / time should anticipate and whether this is drivable for now?
new valve cover and gaskets. ECS has the parts for about $200. Only a few hours of work. I opted to have someone else do it. a few 10 ml bolts, coils and airbox need to be removed. I suggest a bit of grease to help seal the bottom right and top right of the cover.
.
Mine was leaking so bad I had to garage it for fear it would catch fire. Mine was leaking into the turbo area and when hot smoke would plume out of the hood scoop.
Always start with low cost ideas like the valve cover. Much less labor intensive than accessing the crank seals. wash and see if leak is present.

Reason: addition
Before buying a new valve cover, I'd first change the valve cover gasket only. I don't know how much longer it would take with an N14 engine, but I needed far (!) less than one hour the one time I did it on my base cooper (without the turbo).
Note: the repair instructions for the N14 engine prescribe also applying liquid sealant at certain positions. If you're going to do it yourself, I can post a pic from the manual.
