MacRumors also had a post about it and the silver lining is that it can be enabled by BMW through an over-the-air update "by the end of June at the latest"

A friend is purchasing a new 3 Series and at least he doesn't have to make a service appointment to have hardware installed

Here's the link

Russia invading Ukraine is also a factor. Turns out a lot of the world's rare gas supply used in semiconductor manufacturing came from Ukraine. Fab lines are shutting down.

Ukraine is also part of BMW's supply chain, so they've been running out of parts from the usual suppliers, too.

MINI Plant in Oxford shut for a couple weeks last month:

And last week they stopped making manual transmission MINIs because they couldn't get wiring harnesses:

What a mess. I was really lucky when I ordered my JCW Hardtop Iconic. I ordered the car 8/1/21 and the plant went on holliday. It gave them a chance to build up their parts inventory. I picked up the car 12/1/21 and it had everything I ordered, including H and K stereo and sunroof delete. I think this supply chain problem is going to be here for awhile. re: China's virus problems, Russia/Ukraine, and the huge increase in Natural Gas and Oil prices. At 70yo, it sure reminds me of the Carter years.

I ordered mine August 2021, got it December 27, 2021. Had I not made a last minute color change, I would have gotten it fully loaded. Only thing I’m missing now is the Active Cruise Control, so I think I did real good.

Has anyone heard anything more about the over-the-air update? The nav system in my new MINI is kinda sad.
