Dealer overfilled oil

Hi all, Happy Easter!

A couple of weeks ago, I took my 2010 Clubman non-S to the dealer to have the footwell module replaced under recall. On my way there, the check engine light came on so I had them look into it. They said it was something to do with the Vanos caused by low oil, they added 2.5 litres of oil! I was pretty surprised since I have been checking the oil obsessively. Since their intervention, the car was blowing blue smoke when starting off from a start, like at a stop sign. I began to suspect they had overfilled my car with oil. So I ordered the Cravenspeed dipstick.

My suspicions were confirmed, it was way too full! So I siphoned out over a litre of oil and it's still about 1/2 inch overfull according to my new dipstick. It stopped blowing blue smoke though and all seemed fine. With nothing to do today, I decided to install new ignition coils and spark plugs. When I took off one of the old coils, there was oil on it and in the spark plug well! I took one off a month or so ago and there was no oil there. Anyway, the left most coil is oily on the end, the 2nd one less so, and the 3rd just a bit. The fourth is dry. Is it possible that the overfilling of oil by the dealer caused this?

I didn't remove the old spark plugs and put the old coils back on. I'm worried about my poor car and am taking it to a local Euro mechanic on Tuesday.

Any wise advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Make sure you keep your documentation on the oil they added. Overfilling an engine can cause oil cause damage if left to long.

I hope I caught the overfilled oil in enough time. After spending all day reading and googling, I think the oil around the spark plugs and coils is due to the valve cover gasket. I've just ordered a new one. I think I can manage that myself, saving my pennies for other future ailments!
