R53 front strut issue

2004 R53 here. When leaving my driveway the bottom of my right front strut mount started hitting the upper spring mount right below it. There is an abrasion on the strut mount right where it contacts the spring mount (also abraded). The left strut assembly is fine and it's only the right strut assembly that is the problem. The strut mount itself appears to be fine - no tears, splits, etc. in the rubber. Has anyone else run into this problem and, if so, any ideas on why it might be occurring -- bad shock, for instance.? Strut assembly is approximately 18 mos. old. Thanks.

No noise when turning at slow speeds -- only when hitting a bump with the ride front wheel. I put inexpensive struts on the car which is most likely the reason it appears to have failed, however, the left front strut is still fine. Ordered new (better) struts so it's a moot point -- just curious if anyone else had experienced this type of failure before.
