I did some searching to see if this is a common issue, but didn't come across anything that really helped.

This does seem to be a new problem. But any time I open the driver side door (the car is unlocked) it pops the rear hatch open. It also does it if I unlock the car with the fob

Any ideas what would cause this? It's super annoying because I have to keep closing it.

Car is a 2020 Cooper S Hardtop 2 door.

*** it was a setting that somehow got changed. Found it via Bimmer code

 

Since it's a 2020, it should still be under warranty. I would have the dealer fix it.

 

Yup...totally would if I had a dealer that was closer than 3 hours away and not over a mountain pass that's usually closed due to snow this time of year.
