if I snip the paddle shifter wires to remove the paddles will I get a check eng lite?

I recently bought a 2011 6 speed S - apparently someone swapped the steering wheel at some point - to one with paddle shifters - I know how to just use the Torx 30 to remove them, but can I just snip the wires instead of trying to untangle and unplug them without causing havoc? the harnesses are all tangled and fragile looking.

thanks for the help.

I'm surprised there's anything to plug the paddles into in a manual car.

answering my own question, I ended up just disconnecting the paddle shifters and none of the steering wheel controls work

going to reconnect and hopefully everything goes back to normal.

EDIT: yep, all good now - guess I'm keeping the non-functional paddles
