R55 engine ticking, or does this sound normal?
engine ticking, or does this sound normal?
This is on the Clubman S with N14 engine. Forgive me as I'm new to MINI, and I don't know what the engines normally sound like.
In this video does this one sound normal or is it "ticking"?
Secondly, when the video zooms in on the turbo air intake (a bit hard to see), I had removed it and reattached it, but there is a tiny few mms of spacing between the gasket and the rim of the turbo intake – is that ok or do I need to reseat it all the way up?
Performance does seem OK, but again I'm new to MINI and this is the only one I've driven, so I have no reference point. The turbo feels decent to me but I do hear a kind of "whooshing", like some air escaping. I don't know how to describe it exactly, sort of like some of the air on the intake is not fully being used. There is also a very small crack or about 1 inch into the air intake
Kind thanks

From what i can hear that seems like the typical sound of a N14, these are noisy little motors, it the fuel injectors that you are hearing. as for the intake tube, you are fine, mine doesn't fully seat all the way either. There is a thread on here somewhere, people were using hairspray to keep it fully seated, just make sure its on tight and your good. After i reread above you might want to pick up a new intake tube if there is a crack in it.
Engine sounds normal to me, based on the sound in the video...
What Jason said, the inlet tube doesn't need to be "ALL" the way on the turbo inlet, just make sure its snug. That pipe is not pressurized, so real worry about it blowing off.
I see you made comment about a crack in the inlet pipe? If you have a crack, you will want to replace that piece. A crack there means unmetered and unfiltered air is getting into the system, which is bad.

@Jason Cornelius @njaremka Thanks for the comments I appreciate it. I will check again on that intake tube and see if I need a new one
Ok, maybe I jinxed myself, because I feel like I'm hearing ticking now. Does this still sound normal?
I had recently run some seafoam through the engine crankcase (about 4 ounces), and through the gas tank (about 5 ounces with 3 or 4 gallons of gas). This "ticking" seems like it didn't show up until a few days of driving later. I will check my oil levels but last time I checked they seemed ok. I am probably due for an oil change soon. Last one was 92k or 93k miles and I'm at 97k now
