spoke to my parts guy at MINI of Dallas and he told me a couple of days ago that MINI released the antenna setup for the 2004 models a couple of days ago and he told me today that they have shipped the antennas for the 2005's. I wonder if they use the same satellite tuner and this is all we were waiting for. Strange, since I was told that the new antenna on the 05's was supposed to already be Sirius ready.

 

huh? OEM Sirius for the '04s is the same as the kits for the 03's. The change only affects the '05s....

 

Apparently, speaking to my part's guy, the antennas for the 2004 models have been on back order for several months now. That is what I was referring to - the fact that MINI is now shipping the antenna kits for the 2004 and 2005 models. I don't know if the receiver is the same for the 2005 versus earlier models. If you have a 2004 and wanted Sirius, I believe there has been a holdup that just got rectified.

 

Irvine MINI seems to be a little spaced out, could not quote me a price for the retrofit kit, what is the cost of the OEM install?

Mini of Pittsburgh is quoting 775 installed . The 05 antennas are not in yet. I wrote to MiniUSA today and was told, and I quote:
[size=2]"Sorry it has not been officially released yet. However, I can tell you it will be released very, very, very, very soon. Do you think that was a little hint ??? :-)"

The antenna will be a direct replacement (like the shark fin for nav), so I would think install should be very simple. I think I may buy the parts and try the install myself. I know that the PnP is a lot cheaper, but I really prefer not to clutter up the cabin with the unit. I do want to get a text display, but don't care if it is the small version on our head unit. I want to know the name of the song, not trying to read a novel.
