JCW Countryman 2020 issue

I am seeking some help on a new/used 2020 Countryman JCW that I got about 30 days ago. I bought it with 4500 miles on it. I am having some vibration issues with it. I know this is the NEW 301hp motor/trans setup, so I am trying to reach out to those who have the newer F60 and can help me diagnose this issue.

I feel the car ramps up as you are throttling up, the steering wheel and gear shift vibrates/buzzes like it is ramping up then it shifts, stops the vibes and does the normal blow out the exhaust. It’s the ramp up vibration that concerns me. It doesn’t do it when you feather the gas, and not as noticeable when you hit it hard as it makes too much noise. Is this normal in a JCW Countryman. It seems like the transmission hums and whines and vibrates through the gears. It does not seem normal.

I took it to the MINI Dealer once, they drove it and said nothing was wrong
I took it to the MINI dealer a second time, they kept if for 4 days, reprogrammed the car, took a tranny sample and again, they said nothing is wrong. (I trust the tech who worked on it, known him for years)
I have now asked them for a 3rd appointment to get MINI rep or regional tech to look at the car.

I have ASD turned off so its not just that sound.
It does it in Green/Mid/Sport mode

Has anyone seen this on their Countryman JCW?
if i could record it, I would, but it does not come through in a video.

Are there NO 2020-2022 JCW countryman ALL4 out there? No one to give me a little feedback?

No one with your problem, perhaps. It sure sounds like something is amiss!

Is it possible for you to visit another dealer in your area? That way you have a second set of eyes/hands on it. Also maybe you could test drive a similarly spec'd JCW at that new dealer and see if you experience the same issue(s)?

Just a possibility, I had a very firm Powerflex lower engine mount bushing on a F56 JCW. The bushing increased responsiveness since there was less flex in the connection but I could also feel a vibration in the steering wheel. We have a LCI F60 JCW now (without the bushing) and I haven't noticed any vibrations.

My Local dealer who is fantastic is escalating this to the regional team. They also asked me to contact MINI Customer Care which I did. BMW/MINI of NJ has now contacted me and is going to have someone higher up contact me.

Hopefully i can get to someone who can assess the issues and find a resolution.

Still nothing. One big issue is there are NOT many of the new 301 hp models out there and many service techs have not even driven this car. So they have nothing to compare to.

Going to try to reach out to possible local Countryman owners and see is they are having any issues.

I will post back if i discover anything.

LOVE the car, just want to make sure this technical issue is normal and if it is, i live with it. If not, i would like it addressed under warranty and not have issues down the road.

I have a 2022 JCW Countryman All 4. I am having trouble understanding what you are experiencing from the posts above. I also turned off ASD. Happy to try and check mine if you can describe what yours is doing.

When the car is increasing rpms in the 2500-3500 range, it vibrates the steering wheel as the car is getting ready to shift. Then when it shifts…it immediately stops. Then the rpms begin to increase again and does it again. Almost like a harmonic vibration as the trans starts to shift. It is SO hard to describe and does not come through in a video. Sometimes I think…is it the exhaust vibrating. Could be, but not sure.

i have another appointment next Tuesday to address another issue and the BMW service manager is going to drive with me.

So I have a ‘22 F60 JCW as well and the only thing I can think of is a malfunctioning lane departure warning.
The lane departure warning in these cars is a shaking or vibrating steering wheel…
Go into your menus and turn the lane departure warning off and see if you still have an issue.
that’s the only thing I can think of.
Mine doesn’t do want you’re describing.
good luck!

I don’t have lane departure warning on this car.

I have narrowed it down some more. It winds up and vibrates at 2500-2700 rpm in 1-4th gear consistently.

MINI is sending in another regional tech to look at it this Friday.

NOW, ANOTHER issue came up. Listen to this, they are going to address this on Friday as well.

The steering column is squeaking or squealing… Click hear to see and listen

So, today was the 4th time I have been back for this Hum, whine and vibration. A Regional BMW/MINI rep and the service manager rode with me today for a LONG trip. They don’t feel it is Turbo or Transmission related….yet. However, we have narrowed it down to the 2500-2700 RPM and it whines every time in every gear.

We are starting with the most obvious to remove and replace all engine mounts, transmission mounts, remove/inspect and replace the exhaust mounts, remove and reinstall all skid plates and heat Shields and Lower the chassis and replace all bolts and bushings. Working through all the cheapest parts to see if something is not torqued down or a bushing is not seated correctly.

We will see, i feel sure that the car will be there for 3-5 days as the chassis bolts are ONE time use and have to be ordered and replaced.

the rep thinks it is normal, however, when it whines in your ears under normal driving, it’s annoying. I have a cooper S as a loaner and it is as smooth as silk.

more to come later next week.

So, 14 days in the shop. Got the car back today. After replacing engine mounts, transmission mounts, chassis bolts, the vibration in the drive line is better and much less noticeable. The tech said that he did notice that the chassis tightened up better than it came loose. Hopefully that is the problem, it’s definitely better! They sent the car back with me to drive it for the week to see if it is better.

now, the steering is still squeaking and they cannot figure out what this is. https://photos.app.goo.gl/Ywd8ZCC86MUVgwMV6

If ANYONE has heard this before, please let me know. They don’t want to start replacing steering columns and such until we can narrow it down.
