The selling dealer sent me an email to buy my car in trade for a new Mini!!!
They'll give me a whole $12K for it.

KBB shows $18K middle value for trade in, and $20K middle value retail.
Carmax retails at $20K also.
So, they take my car and make $8K profit?? HA!!! Is there a big L on my forehead???

I'm surprised they want a car that old (it must be at least 5 years old right?). Back when I sold cars dealers made more on the used ones than the new ones. Heck I traded in my 2014 JCW Coupe (cost me $39k) last year for $11k at the Tempe Mini dealership. But they didn't keep it to sell there, they wholesaled it.

I get similar letters every couple of months to buy a Honda FIT I sold 5 years ago! And a FOCUS I sold 2 years ago . . .

 

4 years old, 20K miles see they know I just made my last payment.

I know!! Its just funny the amount they threw out there!!

 

Used car prices are out of sight right now because of the shortage of new models due to the e-chip crisis. TheBigNewt above is right. Car dealers make a much higher profit off used cars than new -- $$thousands used as opposed to $$hundreds new. Not for nothing, I used to be in the auto sales promotion business and car dealers are some of the least scrupulous people you'll ever find -- sad but true.
