It looks like the openometer gauge pod, but that wouldn't have come on Clubman. Looks a little small for that, too. Previous owner could have retrofitted the pod for use with an aftermarket gauge...

My guess is its a JCW pod, but it had an aftermarket gauge of some sort in there. Have you tried tracing the USB cable to find out where it comes from - where the other end goes to? Is it an OBD cable?

Hmm, haven't thought of doing that. I'll do that thIs weekend when I have more time.
This car is bone stock so doubt previous owner modded it, I could be wrong.
It had so many issues. I got it for really cheap but after everything I've had to do it, not sure it was worth it.
Runs good now. Slight hesitation when you get on the gas hard, other than that drives normal to me. Never driven a mini before this.
Is this normal on the n12 engines.

Things I've done:
Spark plugs
Both air filters.
Oil change 2 times because if chain guide breaking
Replaced valve cover gasket
Replaced timing chain and tensioner
Dropped oil pan 5o get rid of all the stuff in pan and pick up
O2 sensor
PCV valve in valve cover
Various trim pieces

Thanks for the suggestions.

Ok, couldn't wait till this weekend. Moved all my meetings so I can get to this.

Here is what I found taking apart the panel under the steering wheel.

A GPS unit.
And what looks like some kind of power unit.

After some Googling. I discovered the GPS unit is installed from the dealership as an option for the customer to buy or for them to keep track of inventory.
I just unplugged this.

Now the black box. After some more googling, it looks like it is a power supple for a Garmin GPS unit.

Welp, that solves that mystery.
