Any Pulley Party's Soon?
Kenny,
I am sure you can talk with Randy at Webb and he will let you know what the minimum number of people needed for one is.
By theway, after having the experience/nightmare of installing a pulley without Randy I would never recommend, or help anyone for that matter, do it themselves.
I will be posting a rather amusing how not to install a pulley soon with pics of what is left of the stock pulley people should find funny

Chris
I'd be willing to offer up my garage as a work location if Chris aka Mini03Tiger84 is willing to be the supervisor for the project.
I'm off every other weekend so we should be able to work it in.
What do you say, Chris. care for a trip to the mountains?

Just do yourselves a BIG favor and get the pulley removal tool from Randy or whomever you buy the pulley from. You CANNOT use a standard jawgrip puller. We found out the wrong way and I will be showing some pics soon of what is left of the stock pulley after 7 hours and having to cut the sucker off!
Ironically I am now intamately familiar with the install. It takes about 30-40 minutes to have the engine pulled and ready, however long it should take with the proper tool
, and 30 minutes to put the car back together. At least that was what it was when I did it.
Have fun and if you do it any where near Charleston or Greenville I'll be happy to come hang out!

I'm up in Asheville so not far from Greenville, if we do it you're more then welcome to come up and lend your experience.
MiniTiger has the removal tools, so we shouldn't have to cut anything off. I can't imagine what a PIA that must have been trying to cut just the pulley and not the shaft. I have spent way too much time trying to cobble something in the past and have learned that the right tool makes the job.

Hi Chris B,
I could be talked into a trip to the mountains.
I have to apologize to Kendal72. I owed him a response to an ealier request for help. As it turns out, we are not undoing an install on another car that was potentially going in for warranty work which means we won't be re-installing.
So Chris B, are you looking for an upgrade also?
As it stands now, my Saturdays are pretty clear from the last Saturday of Jan through February.
How big is your garage? Will weather be a factor?
Finally, being a BYOP, everyone will need to order a pulley and a belt. I have all the tools, including the unpatented zip tie ratchet wrenches to ease getting to that tough tensioner bolt.

I've had good luck with parts from Helix13.com

I've had my pulley sitting on the shelf for about 13,000 miles. I wanted to wait until the warranty had expired before modding the engine. So I am now ready willing and able.
I'll be out of town the weekend of the 19th and working the 12th and 26th. So that leaves Feb 5th and if we carry this into March; the 5th.
I've got a 3 bay garage and plenty of jet fuel for the Kerosene heater so we can warm the place up! We've had a few MINIs over to the house before.
I can only guess about the weather and say that "no, it shouldn't be a problem". I'm only 10 miles off of Interstate 40 and if are not snowed-in the, roads leading to our place are very, very nice to test the MINI upgrade!
Question about the belt:
If someone is not going with the 19 % pulley but staying with the smaller 15 % a different belt is not needed, correct?
Looking forward to putting this on the schedule folks, anyone else want to join in?
Chris B
Phhhat pad, Smokey!
The belt for the 15% pulley is the same as stock but you should replace it anyway for good measure
. I bought my GF an Alta pulley for Christmas (not installed yet) and we cruised over to Crown to pick up a new belt.

I figured as much on the belt, always better to go new since you've got it off anyway. So should we book you and the GF in on the party? You know you're welcome to come on down.
littlehandegan - You going to be doing the pulley thing or just hanging out?

Thanks for the info, Chris.
I'll have to check the Gatorback out.
So we going to do this folks??
I could open up bay 3 for "Aero Grille Only" mods. I've gotten rather good at those, if we have any interest out there????

Have any of you thought of doing the larger diameter alternator pulley?? It underdrives the Alt., but will work fine. It will take up the slack on the 15% pulley so the tensioner is not sprung out all the way. I have a couple extra alt. pulleys if anyone wants one.
Just thought that since this is the way I make a living, I'd offer my services. I'd be happy to come out! I've done over 450 now.
I also warranty all of my work, and provide the parts if needed. The warranty is 2 year/24,000 miles.
The cost for installation including the parts is $400. It runs $280 without the parts included.
Hope to see you soon!

I agree Randy does great work!
When I was on a business trip to Denver, I dropped in on one of the "Tech Days" Randy was holding. Lots of great info and good times.
Randy, I hope you're feeling a little better then the day I was there. You were, lets just call it "tender", that day.

Somehow it came up during his party at my house and he told the story. Randy, I feel for ya buddy!I have to agree on the fun "test drives"
at the end.
I'm sorry, I posted that above, but maybe it wasn't that clear.
If you buy the part from me, the whole thing - including installation - is $400.
If you bring your own pulley (Alta), then it is $280.
Both of those prices include the warranty, and of course the test drive and tech talk!
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
Randy

From experience I would recommend paying Randy! If I had to do it again I would not have installed it myself and would buy his plane ticket just to do my install alone! For what its worth that is.
Keep me in the loop though. I am interested in coming up there especially for the Aero Grill kit and fun day to hang out with the MINI's

How much are we gonna be looking to have to put in, to have it installed?
