Installed new tires at about 15K miles. Factory R112 Challenge Wheels. BFG Comp A/S 2

Rear has been making more and more noise. I thought it was a balance issue since there was no play in bearings/suspension. Go to shop today. Run hands over tire tread and both rears are VERY bumpy. Fronts are glass smooth.

Mechanic says its bad rear shocks. Im at 45K miles now.

Bad Shocks? Tire Defect (unlikely just rears but?)?

 

The first thing that I would look at is alignment. It's unlikely that the rear shocks are that worn after only 45k. BTW, your rear tires are probably toast.

 

Had this problem before on my wife's '14 Countryman. Created a heck of a road noise.

 

do you rotate regularly?

it sounds like you have what's called CUPPED or SCALLOPED tires ......

google these terms and your find TONS of discussions . . and pictures to see if I'm guessing correctly . . .
