Navigation & Audio why are these (speaker?) wires disconnected?
Navigation & AudioBring your GPS and favorite CD or MP3. This is where navigation and audio options for the Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs are discussed.
(pic) Looks like at one time they were connected using a press splice. The extra wires go to a wiring harness left fo the steering wheel that has a for light adapter relay attached to it.
Unfortunately can't test the radio/speakers now as the car is partially dismantled including ECU for other repairs

I'll try to go look at my car later today but I have a similar situation. My car had the lights mounted in the grille which I believe was a factory kit. They used "scotch-locks" to tap into the illumination circuit so the lights would go on/shut off with the headlights....prevents leaving the driving lights on when you get out of the car. From what I see, that was just the most convenient place to tap into that circuit.
here's the wiring schematic for the factory driving lights kit ... it does tie into the radio wires and they did have these kwik connectors in the factory kit.
I installed several driving light kits for folks in the early days ...... always considered the overly complicated wiring a PITA ..... made it 50 state legal ... but a PITA
