Late-production R53 transmission/clutch difference?

Hi, have been searching but can't seem to find a real discussion/comparison to answer my question. The transmission changed slightly after 07/2004 for R53. Some parts sites have different clutch kits for pre/post, but realoem.com shows the same part numbers for most of the components. The pressure plates have different part numbers though, but I can't see any real difference between them? Is there a difference in the pressure plates? What would be the consequence of using the other one?

Thanks!

I am not certain if it affects parts interchange, but I do know that the gear ratios changed on the 05-06 R53 and 05-08 R52 S and give both better acceleration and better fuel economy.

OK, thanks. Suspected gear ratios were different, but hadn't seen why. With same flywheel & clutch plate, would think the pressure plates would be also. Not seeing a physical difference, but hoping someone is out there "in the know".

It is very common for BMW to change the part number when new and equivalent supersedes the old. As far as I know the clutch and flywheel have no material difference on all R52/R53.

There are two 6-speed gearbox ratios - pre and post "facelift" separated by circa Jun 2014. The latter has shorter gears which is preferred by most.

R50 is totally different from R52/R53, in both the gearbox and clutch/flywheel.

It would be best if you decide if you prefer naturally ingested or forced fed. I like foie gras.

The big difference is the gear ratio change and why you see the different part numbers.

I've also noticed different part numbers for the clutch kits, but they actually will interchange.

We offer clutch kits and request the vin from customers so we can always make sure we get you the right kit.

Make sure you plan to do all the little things when you do the clutch like fluid, rear main, guide tube, bolts, and control arm bushings as these are all easy to do while the trans is out.
