I have a question about my R56S exhaust. So I’ve noticed that my exhaust pops in sport mode but not when sport mode is off. I assumed that it was because of some sort of valve in the exhaust but I was also thinking that it’s just the throttle response causing it to rev higher. I looked on plenty of forums and couldn’t find any info.

So why is it that my Mini’s exhaust pops only in sport mode? I’m curious because I’m thinking about changing the exhaust to something more aggressive but want it to still only pop in sport mode for my neighbors’ sake.

 

This is how the car is programmed, pops in sport mode but none in normal mode.

 

Mine pops about the same in both modes
(2009 JCW R55). I think they changed
the programming with the LCI models,
unless it’s a JCW thing.

 

Yeah so I guess at one point some people complained about the popping(not sure why) so they got rid of it. Then people complained that they got rid of it so it looks like they programmed them to only pop in sport mode as a compromise.

 

Yep 2007-2010 S the pops was only when its on sport mode and driving really hard on the track ( JCW models you can get it it to it easier), In 2011+ Models they brought it back.
