R53 HVAC blower replacement

I'm getting ready to dig into this as I need heat for the winter. Why does the manual say that I have to drain the coolant and refrigerant in order to remove the dash? Does the center HVAC housing come out with the dash as well, thus necessitating the need to drain both? I have a Bently 2002-2006 Mini manual and need to complete this task as soon as possible.

After spending a frustrating afternoon disassembling much of my interior, I still don't see why I'm supposed to drain the coolant/refrigerant. The refrigerant doesn't bother me that much as I plan on doing the AC compressor delete but I find myself being annoyed at the prospect of draining a new load of Zerex G-05 and replacing it.

I’ve never done this job.

but I’d guess the heater core is in the dash and the hoses have to be disconnected to get it out.

i feel your pain though. I’m still chasing an ac leak...so I might be doing this soon. Hoping not

I'll get it on ramps tomorrow and drained. Already discharged the AC today.
