Is there a USB option for the stock first gen head units?

Probabky been asked before, but I'm not finding the answer to this question

I have a '04 R53 and a '06 R52....both have the stock radio head units.

My '04 R53 had the trunk mounted 6 disc changer when I bought the car....last summer it stopped working..I tried everything to get it to work...it's dead.
I found a AUX input cable and plugged it into the rear of the radio, I can plug the little 3mm cable into my phone to play audio files....was just wanting to play from my thumb drive if possible....on both cars

My question is this.....is there a USB option or cable that plugs into the rear of the head units to play my music from a thumb drive? Or do I have to get a small USB player and use the AUX input to play my music?

Thanks guys.....

Bryan

I haven't tried it myself, but his might be an option:
Amazon Amazon

There was a post a while back here on NAM on this, or a unit like it, but I'm not sure if they used it for the USB or SD card inputs. I think their main concern was to add bluetooth handsfree calling to the stock radio. It uses the CD changer inputs on the back of the radio so hopefully your changer is bad and not your radio. It also uses CD changer emulation so you might be limited to 6 playlists or folders to simulate the 6 discs in a changer.

Another alternative would be to burn an MP3 CD. Not sure how easy it would be to navigate through the music, but your '06 should be able to read an MP3 CD and about 6-8 CD's worth of music should fit on one disc at a good quality bit rate.

I know the changer is bad....I tried every reset procedure...it's full of 6 CD's...but the radio will not recognize that...keeps saying "NO CD"

I also got an AUX cable assembly and plugged it into the rear of my head unit....that works on my "04 now....

Thanks for the Amazon link....might be promising.....or maybe find a older I-pod that has a shuffle feature for playing music from a flash drive. I have tried playing music that was loaded onto a SD card.....but the quality of the sound was terrible

I recently got this cheapie on ebay. Plugs into the Aux-in and a usb lighter adapter (for power). Does bluetooth and has a USB connector and option. Doesn't do phone, but bluetooth works fine.

Bluetooth add in

If the device your trying to connect supports Bluetooth, I recommend this adapter from LAPower. I have it installed in all my Gen 1 cars (3 in total), and it works good. It uses the steering wheel controls as well
