How to drain / pump out old fuel?
The car has been sitting for at least 3 yrs and it has a full tank of gasoline. I need the last drop out.
I tried disconnecting the fuel line to drain but when I turn the ignition on, it only pumps for a few second.
Someone I need to keep the pump running...
I don't want to remove the fuel tank. That is too much work. Siphoning the fuel out from the tank might be the last I want to do.
Fuel tank capacity is about 11 gallon, right?
I think I'd siphon- get a cheap setup from Advance Auto or Harbor Freight that has a bulb and you won't need to get a mouthful of gas! I think the capacity is closer to 12 but I could be wrong.
Capacity is 13.2 gallons, so says the internet. A bit more by my not so wise driving past gas stations. I tried siphoning once through the fill tube, two things. Didn't work I didn't have the patience to keep making it work, and two most importantly, USE A RUBBER HOSE, that is stable for gasoline use.
My advice try and go in through the pump, filter house. That is pretty accessible. Since the fuel has been sitting for three years, and you are in the Gen 1 forums my guess is that a fuel filter change would be good.
Oriellys sells a pump that runs off of a drill. It may be helpful, I always want to find an excuse to buy the thing.
I decided to try running the engine with the 3 yr old gasoline (full tank). I did add a bottle of walmart super tech fuel treatment a day before. The engine runs fine.
Still plan to replace the fuel filter and at the same time syphon out the old fuel if I get the car running.
