Reliability/Ok to buy?

I am currently looking at an automatic 2012 Mini Countryman S with 69,000 miles. The owner is asking 10k but I was going to try to do 9k. I absolutely love the countryman’s and it has all the things I’m looking for with the back bench seat and mini connected. I don’t have a ton of moneys to spend on repairs after I buy it though as I’m going to college. The car has already had the water pump replaced in 2015, Thermostat housing, oil solenoid pump, new battery, and all new tires. I was looking at the car with the view point of most of the expensive stuff has already been replaced so I won’t have to. Should I expect more stuff to break and such with the year and mileage/is it worth it? Thank you everyone for your help.

I essentially bought the same car a year and half ago. 2012 S All4. It had 85k at the time and all the major issues already addressed.

I love the car. Every minute. I was able to afford and extended warranty, that has helped with piece of mind and one big repair.

I have put 30k on it so far...smiling the whole time.

Expensive to fix if you can't DIY. Lots more stuff can fail, no guarantees. Get a Pre Purchase Inspection from a qualified mechanic who specializes in MINI/BMW.

I own a 67k mile 2012 S All4 I bought new. It's had all that done.
It's also had a surprise transfer case replacement under warranty...

It's been good, but I'd check the oil regularly and not rely on the computer to tell you when it's ready or when it's low because that's probably not soon enough.

A few things to be aware of wearing out in the near future:
strut top mounts, at least in the front
the little air flappy things in front of the front wheels are probably busted but torn off so you won't notice they're hanging loose
I'm starting to see odd fading on the scuttle plastics
and a little non-repairable wear and tear on the driver's seat (base seats, showing a little cracking)

You can also do yourself a solid (if the previous owner didn't) and get some super cheap OEM floor mats from ECS Tuning. Nobody wants to see ratty old heel damage.

oh and in case you haven't guessed: I'm keeping my 2012 for a long time.

Its not a Toyota Matrix or Honda Civic. If Reliability is paramount....I hate to say but my advice would be look elsewhere.

I 100% agree ^^^

I'm worried about what is going to happen next with my daughters 2014 CM. Nice looks and fun but HIGH MAINTENANCE... Kind of like the wife lol.

You didn't mention it having any turbo service. They do fail prematurely in those cars. I agree with the others, fun to drive but if you cant do the repairs yourself, they can be expensive to maintain.

Sorry I never responded I thought this website gave notifications if you were subscribed to a forum. So I ended up getting the car. It’s been doing great so far. The coolant does seem to get lower kind of quick but other then that it seems good. The turbo has been serviced already according to the paperwork. It also has all tech floor mats and oem ones as well. I’m using the all tech because I’m into fishing so they work great for just wiping down once I’m done for the day. Only other question I really have about it is at low speeds it seems to want to stop. Around 10 or lower while cruising it starts seeming like it’s braking then will stop. I previously had an 03 ford ranger so I don’t know if this is just something that newer cars do or a problem. Thank you all I really appreciate the advice and will be checking back every day so I don’t just disappear like before.

Might want to get your bearings looked at. I needed exactly that on my 2012 ALL4 last year, but it was due to the noise. I'm curious, what happens if you cruise then pop it into neutral, does that effect the rate of deceleration?

I can test it the next time I go drive. It just seems like it’s kind of lurchy deacceleration. Almost as if someone was applying the brake then it’ll ease up.
