Lightbulb mini R56 custom 3D printed gauge pods

I made my own pods for 62mm gauges but i am trying them and constantly changing them. I currently am at the version 5 where the pods move along the x and y axis and can rotate also. I am thinking about putting a swivel at the end to complete all movements. I will propably print a solid rigid version once i am happy with the final setup.
I am starting to think that the 62 gauges cant be 100% visible through the wheel, and thats why i am printing the version 5. I will try it and post pictures.

What do you think? The files will be uploaded the thingiverse for free download once completed.

Nice! What CAD tool are you using?

My concern about your design is how robust the arms and joints will be. One of my first mods after I got my MINI was installing the Cravenspeed guages, I don't think the complexity in your design is necessary. But try it out and post pics!

I now use a mount that i printed like the alta pod. The gauges are greddy d/a and are 60mm. I cant see the analog part of the top ones ( i see the screen just fine). Thats why i am trying to make them come close, and lower them. I am printing the parts and will post pictures. I am using solidworks

This is awesome and exactly what I was looking for!

I am in search for 4 gauges pods of 60mm.

Same setup from cravenspeed costs me about 300+usd shipped. I would definitely like to see end of this project.

Maybe when you get them in perfect position, you could get rid of all joints and print it as 1 solid part?

Hi!

i am now between prototypes. I constantly print and try them. I even made a prototype for the top gauges to automaticaly raise when you turn the ignition on cause the 60mm pods are big to see through the steering wheel.

The joint system did not perform well. I had a lot of movement. I only used it to take mesurements.

i ll keep you posted. Ofcourse when it is ready i will post the .stl files

beta testing

what do you think? I am thinking of making a solid base with everything joined together at that position

I personally think it looks great, well done.

My concern would be will all pods be visible at normal driving height i.e short and tall people, instead of looking through the steering wheel.

Looks great imo. They wouldn't look good if you put top ones even higher.. also staggering them would prevent any vibration noise I think

Just re arrange gauges digital screens to be on the same line with tachometers digital screen. They same small angles now but that's just my OCD:D

i am 1,79m and when driving i see the 2/3 of the top ones. Thats why i chose instruments with screen! I wil post a POV image. It was my concern if the 60mm gauges would fit. Definitely 50mm would be better.

Another problem that i am trying to solve is the steering column hubs(?!) hitting the lower instruments when moving the steering wheel back. Now the pods are flexible enough to go above but if i make a solid fixed pod base maybe that will be a problem.

How did you connect the gauges to the sensors, also what type of sensors did you use. Did you connect to the "Mini's computer system" and then get the gauges to receive the data from the Mini engine management system or did you install your own sensors?
